    PRINCIPLES OF FOOTBALL COACHING



1. Be a Teacher

   A. Organizer - Plan - Leave nothing to chance

   B. Knowledgeable - Student of the Game


2. Be Simple

   A. Disseminate as if they have a limited ability to learn and understand

   B. Everyone learns differently (know outside influences)

   C. Be personable and open-minded


3. Be Intense

   A. Desire to "Get It Right

   B. Creates a Competitive Spirit


4. Be Improving Every Player

   A. Give each player a chance (helps the team)

   B. Everyday help Players to: Improve their skills, Learn to communicate better,

        and better understand what they are doing.

   C. Players learn a new skill or technique two ways

      1. They understand mentally but are unable to execute physically

          (players need continuous repetition to improve)

      2. They are able to execute physically but unable to imediately understand

          mentally. Coach may need to Say it, Write it, Let them see it, Walk thru

          it, and have them do it as many times as possible?


5. Be Result Oriented

   A. Work don't dream

   B. Set Goals


6. Be Positive

   A. Encourage, Inspire, Motivate

   B. Offer Hope - always upbeat, definite


7. Be Enthusiastic

   A. Show a passionate devotion to the Goal

   B. Zeal


8. Be 1 st Class

   A. Teach them to win within the Rules

   B. Right and Wrong (Discipline)

   C. Respect for the Game

   D. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right or don't


9. Win as a Team, Lose as a Team

   A. Together as one group
   B. What one player does affects the whole team
